FAQ

When can I apply?
You can apply at any time.  Applying early will help you complete the admissions process, apply for financial aid, and enroll in the classes at convenient times and locations.

How much does TJC cost?
Your cost will be based on the number of credit hours you enroll in each semester, and include any fees that are associated with the classes. Refer to our Tuition and Fees section for more information.  Many students receive some form of financial assistance from financial aid, veterans benefits, or scholarships in order to help with College costs.

Will TJC help me with my career?
TJC offers a variety of degrees and certificates that will help you start a career, or learn new skills that can be applied in your existing job.  Our Academic Advisors can help you identify which programs are right for you!   Our Career Services office can also help you explore careers that are right for you by using career interest inventories.

Can I take courses that will transfer to a university?
Yes,  TJC offers degrees that prepare you to transfer to a university.  Information on transfer degrees as well as how to request transcripts  is available online.

How do I submit my official transcripts to TJC?
Contact your High School or previous colleges that you have attended and request that they deliver an official transcript to Tyler Junior College.  An official, sealed transcript may also be hand-delivered to the Registrar’s office in the White Administrative Services Center.  Transcripts submitted to TJC via fax will be considered unofficial copies.

When can I take the THEA and how much does it cost?
Please check with our Testing center for dates and times and costs.  Please note that TJC also offers the Accuplacer Test – a State of Texas approved alternative test to the THEA.  This test is offered on a continuous basis during the Testing Center normal hours of operation, is less expensive, and provides the student with immediate results.

What if I didn’t graduate from high school and don’t have a GED?
The Testing Center offers the GED test every Thursday evening and every fourth Saturday of the month at our West Campus.  Please contact the Testing Center for current prices and exact testing times and dates.  If you need some assistance in preparing for the GED, please check with the Adult Literacy Council of Tyler.  The Adult Literacy Council of Tyler offers this GED preparation free of charge.
