The Office of First Year Experience
First Year Experience, or FYE, is a program that is dedicated to presenting unique opportunities for first time students to maximize student potential in the collegiate setting. FYE provides tools, support, and knowledge for students to have a successful experience in higher education. FYE Programs: -
Apache Chiefs An elite organization on campus of those who prepare, set-up and oversee all areas of Apache Orientation for incoming freshmen. They are also mentors to these students, making sure they are successful in their first year. -
First Year Student Surveys These surveys administered by FYE ensure that the views and interests of first year students are represented throughout the College. -
Apache Orientation A fun, overnight experience offered primarily in the summer that gives new, incoming students the chance to explore TJC in person. -
First Year Experience 0100 (FFYE 0100) An online course any new student to TJC is required to take that facilitates student success and ensures each student transitions successfully into the college lifestyle at TJC. A Note from the Desk of… Ashleigh Lewis Coordinator, First Year Experience I am delighted to welcome you into the Tyler Junior College extended family. The next two years of your son or daughter’s life will be filled with many new opportunities for intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. The changing nature of their lives will certainly have an impact on you and your family. These changes can be very exciting, yet emotional at times for the whole family. The office of First Year Experience is here to help make this a smooth transition for both your family as well as your student. FYE serves as a springboard to campus resources, services and opportunities that promote personal growth and academic success. We are dedicated to expanding your student’s horizons to see the positive developments and achievements they will accomplish throughout their time at TJC. Again, I welcome you to our family. Through your support, we can work in partnership together to assist your student in becoming a well-rounded person who will be ready to assume an important role in society.
